Amateur Radio Ham Cram
This class if for a Technician Class license.
A "Ham Cram" is a one day study session for an amateur radio license with an official FCC amateur radio test offered towards the end of the day (or earlier if you are ready.)
The aviation and aerospace industries are heavily dependent upon radio communications for the safe operation of their programs. The lives of pilots and astronauts are fully dependent upon the safe and proper operation of their radio systems. If you are pursuing a career in aviation or aerospace, an amateur radio license is recommend as a great introduction to radio communications.
Although technologies such as GPS, WiFi, satellite and cellular communications are prominent these days, they are each still dependent upon radio wave propagation. Amateur radio is a great hands-on way to obtain experience and learn how it all works.
A one day class will be held at the Livermore Municipal Airport (LVK) on April 21, 2018 from 9AM to about 4:00 PM. We will meet in the Event Room at Five Rivers Aviation. Their address is 700 Terminal Cir, Livermore, CA 94551
The Livermore Amateur Radio Klub is providing the class for free. The FCC license test will be given after the class. There is a $15.00 charge to take the test.
You will need a government issued photo ID, and will need to put your FRN (FCC Registration Number) or your Social Security number on the application (this applies to everyone, including minors). If you prefer to not use your Social Security Number, you should obtain a FRN from the FCC (www.fcc.gov).
The Class will teach you what you need to know to get your Technician Class amateur license. Morse Code is no longer required to get a Ham license.
The notes for the class are available at http://www.rdf-sf.org and can be found in: Library / KN6FW-Tech Class
Please download all 4 files, PRINT them, and bring them to class (Reading through them before class would be good as well).
Rich, KN6FW will teach the class and recommends the Gordon West's Technician Class Manual as a reference. Reading the book ahead of time is highly recommended.
You will need to sign up in advance for the class, and will need to get to the Livermore Airport before 9:00 AM. This is an active airport. We'll provide a tour if time allows.
Contact Tom Manger, AE6XJ ([email protected]) to sign-up for the class. Class is limited to 30 students, so sign-up early.
